CoolSculpting FAQ

How does freezing fat work?

CoolSculpting is a process called cryolipolysis ⎯ which literally freezes fat cells so it can be eliminated from the body through natural digestive processes. This cutting-edge, non-invasive fat loss procedure was initially introduced to North America in 2010. CoolSculpting is an FDA-cleared, exciting, safe and effective way to eliminate stubborn fat. Literally freezing the fat, the procedure takes body tissue down to a very low temperature, causing fat-cell death in a process known as cryolipolysis.

I heard CoolSculpting is “like having lipo on your lunch break” ⎯ is that true?

Yes, many patients have busy schedules, or they don’t want to go under the knife, or maybe they don’t have the time or budget for liposuction. So they choose CoolSculpting. It’s convenient, and they can do treatments at their own pace. The sessions are only 35 minutes each so it allows them to come in on their lunch breaks.

Are the results permanent?

Once the fat cells have been frozen, they are gone forever. Every person is born with a set number of fat cells, and these fat cells will get bigger when you gain weight or smaller when you lose weight. Those experiencing CoolSculpting can expect a significant overall loss of fat cells in the treated areas after four weeks.

Can I get two areas sculpted at once?

I was so impressed with the results I saw in my patients that I soon invested in a second CoolSculpting machine and we can actually “dual sculpt,” improving two areas at the same time in as little as 35 minutes. Many patients treated with CoolSculpting are so happy with their results they return to have more treatments done.

Can’t I just exercise to get rid of my fat?

There are little budges and problem areas many people have which are hard to get rid of, no matter how hard you exercise. CoolSculpting is not a procedure meant to address obesity but is meant to reshape and fine-tune one or more problem areas for most patients. In fact, CoolSculpting is FDA-cleared to treat 9 different problem areas on the body. CoolSculpting is for those who just want to look better and feel more confident about their appearance.

How much fat can I lose?

Each treated area will lose about 25% of the fat cells. Results are seen in about 4 weeks and the best results over the following two to three months. The fat is eliminated from the body through the lymphatic system. My patients return for periodic re-evaluations, after which they often choose to treat and improve additional body areas because they are so happy with the results in the areas we treated. It truly can be a life-changing experience. Our patients are regaining their confidence, and fitting into clothes they never thought they would wear again ⎯ including bathing suits.

Is CoolSculpting painful?

The CoolSculpting procedure is not painful, and pain medications are not needed during the procedure or after. We offer the very latest technology utilizing a very light vacuum. Once the applicator is applied, it feels like a slight pulling sensation, and then it gets cold and then numb. After the procedure is complete, patients may feel a sensation of numbness, tingling and swelling in the treated area for a short time.

Is CoolSculpting for men too?

While most of our patients are female, CoolSculpting is not just for the ladies. We are currently treating many men who rave about their results. They say it’s a real game-changer because they are finally able to conquer the fat in those problematic areas that seemed impossible no matter how much they work out and diet.

How do we know CoolSculpting is safe and effective?

Today, the CoolSculpting procedure is time tested as well as FDA cleared. There have been nearly 30 years of research done on cryolipolysis, and over 7 million treatments have been done worldwide. That is why we have invested in a full line of CoolSculpting equipment. We want to help as many people as possible to get that body they’ve always dreamed of.
